Softball Recap: Howland's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Howland entered their tilt with Streetsboro on Saturday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Rockets a 13-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Tigers have won by exactly 13 runs.

Brooke Tatar made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, Madison Schmitz was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in home runs (two). Maya Kubancsek was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Howland hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in nine consecutive matches.

Howland's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Streetsboro, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-3.

Looking ahead, Howland will face off against Boardman at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Streetsboro, they will take on Cloverleaf at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
