Softball Recap: Cocke County Makes It 20 in a Row at Home

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Cocke County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Karns Beavers, sneaking past 8-7. The win was familiar territory for the Fighting Cocks, who have now won four matchups in a row.

Ellie Proffitt made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over eight innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adisen Mcnealy, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 contests. Carsie Ellison was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

Cocke County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in four consecutive games.

Cocke County pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.4 runs. As for Karns, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cocke County will square off against Morristown-Hamblen East at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Karns, they will face off against Union County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
