Columbia's game on Thursday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 victory over the Needville Bluejays. The win was all the more spectacular given the Roughnecks' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 472nd, while the Bluejays are ranked 220th).

Columbia's one-goal win came courtesy of Erick Santa Cruz, who's now up to four this season.

Columbia has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those four matchups. Needville's loss dropped their record down to 10-3.

Looking ahead, Columbia will face off against Brazosport at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Needville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sweeny at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Needville's last five contests have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
