Recap: Adams City Eagles vs. Denver North Vikings
The Adams City Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They suffered a rough 46-26 defeat at the hands of Denver North. Adams City has not had much luck with Denver North recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, Adams City still got an impressive performance from Fernanda Hernandez, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 11 rebounds. Hernandez is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruby Aguilar, who scored 2 points along with 9 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Adams City were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Denver North only pulled down 21.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Denver North to victory, but perhaps none more so than Genevieve Kuykendall, who scored 9 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Adriana Ortiz was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with 8 rebounds and 5 steals.
Adams City's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-5. As for Denver North, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1.
Adams City will head out on the road to face off against Bear Creek at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Bear Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Tuesday. As for Denver North, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Evergreen at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Evergreen focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 last Friday.
