Softball Game Preview: Doyle Tigers vs. Chalmette Owls

The Doyle Tigers will face off against the Chalmette Owls at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

Doyle is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Louisiana's top teams: Brusly, who was ranked 11th at the time (Doyle was ranked 25th). The Tigers took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers on Thursday. The Tigers' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Chalmette entered their tilt with Fontainebleau on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs an 11-0 shutout. The Owls might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by nine runs or more this season.

Shelby Vitrano was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Tabora, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Chalmette always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fontainebleau only posted an OBP of .111.

Doyle's defeat dropped their record down to 18-7. As for Chalmette, their win bumped their record up to 13-7.

Doyle took their victory against Chalmette in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2 score. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Owls have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
