Recap: Legacy Lightning vs. Horizon Hawks

The Legacy Lightning were the 56-52 winner over the Horizon Hawks when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Legacy fell 58-47 to Horizon on Friday. While losing is never fun, Legacy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while Horizon is ranked eighth).

Despite the loss, Legacy still got an impressive performance from Olivia Mortensen, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 15 rebounds. That was a full 57.4% of Legacy's points, marking the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Meghan Allshouse, who scored nine points along with five assists.

Natalie Thornton continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Horizon, scoring 17 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Madyn Kassatly, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.

Legacy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for Horizon, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 18-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Legacy will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Fort Collins at 6:30 p.m. on February 13th. Fort Collins is coming into the game with eight straight victories at home, so Legacy is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. As for Horizon, they will head out on the road to face off against Poudre at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Horizon is coming into the game with four straight wins on the road, so Poudre is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
