Basketball Recap: Riverside-Durham Comes Up Short

With Riverside-Durham's effective field goal percentage at 100% and Jordan's at 50% on Friday, the final result was to be expected on Friday. The Riverside-Durham Pirates took a blow against the Jordan Falcons, falling 54-16. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 504th, while the Falcons are ranked 145th).

Au'Nehstii Hagans and Beck Arrendondo certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Hagans posted seven points, while Arrendondo had seven points. That was a full 43.8% of Riverside-Durham's points, marking the third time in a row Hagans has scored more than a third of the team's points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jordan to victory, but perhaps none more so than Valerie-ange Batta, who went 5-for-7 to rack up 13 points. Batta continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Saniyah Suiter, who went 6-for-7 on her way to 15 points.

Riverside-Durham has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 13 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Jordan, their win bumped their record up to 15-6.

Coincidentally, Riverside-Durham and Jordan will both be playing East Chapel Hill the next time they take the court. Jordan will host East Chapel Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, while Riverside-Durham will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
