Volleyball Recap: Marquette Mustangs vs. Rock Bridge Bruins

Marquette was the 3-2 winner over Rock Bridge when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Mustangs fell just short of the Bruins by a score of 2-1 on Saturday. While the Mustangs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bruins 25-16 in the first set.

Marquette started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 16-25, 25-16, 25-20.

Danaya Petkova paced Marquette's offense, picking up 11 kills. Petkova got some help from Maggie Smith and her 19 assists. Camille Plunkett controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Rock Bridge can attribute much of their success to Terry Schrock, who had 16 digs and three assists. That's the most digs Schrock has posted over her last 11 matches. Alyssa Boehmer also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Marquette's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Rock Bridge, their victory bumped their record up to 14-12.

Marquette wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against Grain Valley on the 27th. As for Rock Bridge, they have also already played their next matchup, a 3-1 loss against Helias on the 30th.
