Softball Recap: Mankato East Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

Mankato East came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Austin Packers 13-3. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cougars also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Kylinn Stangl was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Maddeline Beaty was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Kenley Staunton was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Mankato East kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Mankato East pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average this season. As for Austin, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-9.

Coming up, Mankato East will take on Red Wing at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars are facing the Wingers at the right time seeing as the Wingers are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Austin, they will challenge Mankato West at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
