Basketball Recap: St. Marys' Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

After flying high against Jefferson West last Friday, St. Marys came back down to earth. The St. Marys Bears fell just short of the Troy Trojans by a score of 43-40 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Trojans are ranked 28th).

Despite the loss, St. Marys still got an impressive performance from Hayden Heim, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 72.5% of St. Marys' points, marking the tenth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

The loss snapped St. Marys' winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 6-4 record. As for Troy, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Marys will square off against Jackson Heights on Thursday. St. Marys is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season. As for Troy, they will face off against Lafayette at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Troy is facing Lafayette at the right time seeing as Lafayette is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
