The Browne Bruins are taking a road trip to square off against the Dobson Mustangs at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Browne is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
Browne can't be too worried about heading out to take on Dobson: they just beat Tempe at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Bruins never let the Buffaloes get on the board and left with an 11-0 win on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bruins.
Browne let Dania Duran and Seilah Sauceda run wild. Duran went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Sauceda went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Duran has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Tunisia Rios, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Browne was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Dobson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 15th straight loss. They came up short against Skyline, falling 23-5.
Natalie Hamblin was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. Hayden Brown was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI.
Browne's victory was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Dobson, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-21.
Dobson's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Browne has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Dobson, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.2 strikeouts. Will Browne keep running through batters, or will the Mustangs buck the trend?
Browne couldn't quite get it done against Dobson when the teams last played back in March of 2022 as they fell 9-4. Can the Bruins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
