Softball Game Preview: Saegertown Panthers vs. Reynolds Raiders

Saegertown is a perfect 3-0 against Reynolds since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Panthers will square off against the Raiders at 11:00 a.m. Saegertown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.

Saegertown will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run last Thursday, then bounced right back against Rocky Grove on Thursday. The Panthers blew past the Orioles 10-1. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by nine runs or more this season.

Hailey Obenrader made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Mackenzie Brauen and Natalie Halsey did most of the damage at the plate: Brauen went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Halsey got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Brauen a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rylie Braymer, who went 1-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Reynolds fell victim to Sharpsville and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 12-0 to the Blue Devils. The Raiders haven't had much luck with the Blue Devils recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Saegertown is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Reynolds, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.

Saegertown took their victory against Reynolds in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 16-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
