Football Game Preview: South Spartans vs. East Bakersfield Blades + How To Watch

The South Spartans will head out to face off against the East Bakersfield Blades at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for South and six for East Bakersfield.

On Friday, South ended up a good deal behind West and lost 28-12. While the Spartans had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Vikings 12-0.

Despite the loss, South saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rodney Williams rushed for 77 yards and one TD on only seven carries. Beto De Haro helped out on the ground, rushing for 82 yards.

Meanwhile, East Bakersfield was beaten by Tehachapi 41-7 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Blades can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 960th, while the Warriors are ranked 464th).

East Bakersfield's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for South, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

South took their victory against East Bakersfield in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 34-14 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
