Basketball Recap: Alleghany Trojans vs. Mount Airy Granite Bears

The Alleghany Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their sixth straight loss. They fell 33-24 to Mount Airy. Alleghany has struggled against the Granite Bears recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Alleghany lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sarah Bare. Despite the final result, she scored eight points along with five steals. Bare hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.

Even though they lost, Alleghany smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. This was only their 12th loss (out of 13 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

Alleghany dropped their record down to 1-16 with that defeat, which was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.8 points per game. As for Mount Airy, their victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 6-11.

Alleghany will head out on the road to face off against the Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. North Stokes presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Trojans in North Carolina (the Vikings are ranked 125th, while the Trojans are ranked 498th). As for Mount Airy, they will be playing at home against the Rams at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Starmount is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
