Baseball Game Preview: Freeburg Midgets vs. Civic Memorial Eagles

The Freeburg Midgets are taking a road trip to challenge the Civic Memorial Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The last four games Freeburg has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Thursday, Freeburg didn't have quite enough to beat Roxana and fell 5-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Midgets in their meetings with the Shells: they've now lost four in a row.

Dane Johnson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Sam Rauckman, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Civic Memorial fell victim to Highland and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs.

Civic Memorial also got a good showing from Brock Rust, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Rust has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Civic Memorial saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was August Frankford, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Luke Clouser also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Civic Memorial dropped their record down to 12-14 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Freeburg, their record is now 12-11.

Freeburg couldn't quite finish off Civic Memorial in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can the Midgets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
