Baseball Recap: Rancho Verde Wins Going Away Against Hillcrest

Rancho Verde made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Hillcrest, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Everything went the Rancho Verde Mustangs' way against the Hillcrest Trojans on Thursday as the Rancho Verde Mustangs made off with a 9-2 win. This was a revenge game for the Mustangs: when they faced off against the Trojans last Tuesday, they had to take a 9-1 defeat.

Julian Dominguez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Rancho Verde is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-5 otherwise. Dominguez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Rancho Verde let Uriah Celestine and Caden Coppola run wild. Celestine scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2, while Coppola scored a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance gave Celestine a new career-high in stolen bases. Another player making a difference was David Hernandez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Rancho Verde now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Hillcrest, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-4-1.

Rancho Verde will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Canyon Springs at 3:15 p.m. on April 1st. As for Hillcrest, they will welcome La Sierra at 3:15 p.m. on Monday.
