Baseball Recap: St. Charles North Wins Going Away Against Batavia

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but St. Charles North had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They blew past the Batavia Bulldogs 10-2. The North Stars have beaten the Bulldogs the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.

Matt Ritchie was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 6.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Matt Kelly, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Ben Auer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

St. Charles North's victory bumped their record up to 21-12. As for Batavia, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-20-1 record this season.
