Piedmont Hills and Lincoln pushed the score to 16-4 the last time they played Lincoln, but on Friday defenses reigned supreme. The Pirates won by a run and slipped past the Lions 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted against the Lions since May 12, 2022.

Piedmont Hills got a great performance from Ava Martinez as she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Martinez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Piedmont Hills' win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ava Delagrande, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Piedmont Hills is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Lincoln, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-4.
