Baseball Recap: Charleston Comes Up Short

Charleston was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 12-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mattoon Greenwave. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 18-1 to the Greenwave when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Charleston got a massive performance out of Wyatt Gordon, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That home run was Gordon's first of the season. Chase King was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Charleston's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Mattoon, they pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Greenwave beat Charleston by a score of 5-4 later that day.
