Baseball Game Preview: Cornwall Central Dragons vs. Minisink Valley Warriors

The Cornwall Central Dragons will head out on the road to take on the Minisink Valley Warriors at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Cornwall Central knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Minisink Valley likes a good challenge.

Cornwall Central is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Warwick with a sharp 15-1 win on Monday. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by ten runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 18 runs the game before, Minisink Valley was a bit more limited in their contest on Monday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Goshen Central. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Gladiators recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Will Burretto was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, Minisink Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nik Marrero, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI. Bobby Ayers also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Minisink Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Cornwall Central, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Cornwall Central suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Minisink Valley in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
