The Silverado Skyhawks will face off against the Durango Trailblazers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Silverado 3.8, Durango 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Silverado is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Southeast Career Tech by a score of 7-3. The game was the first time the Skyhawks have beaten the Roadrunners on their field since May 12, 2021.
Giovanni Guariglia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adam Rhodus, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Kanoa Wolfgang was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Silverado always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 13-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Durango had already won 17 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it 18 on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Skyhawks a 4-0 shutout.
Like Silverado, Durango also got a great game from a two-way player: Alexander Mercurius. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Mercurius was also big at the plate, going 3-for-6 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
Silverado is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Durango, their victory bumped their record up to 26-6.
Silverado couldn't quite get it done against Durango in their previous matchup on Thursday as they fell 4-0. Can the Skyhawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
