Baseball Recap: Mount Union Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

It's playoff time, and Mount Union had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against the Montgomery Red Raiders on Monday as they made off with a 13-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Davin Yocum looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jamon Ranck was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Weirich, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one double.

Mount Union always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Mount Union's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Montgomery, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-6.

Coming up, Mount Union will head out on the road to square off against Tri-Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. Montgomery does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
