Volleyball Preview: West Holt Huskies vs. Wausa Vikings
The West Holt Huskies will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Wausa Vikings. The last three games West Holt has played have been within one set, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Last Tuesday, West Holt didn't have quite enough to beat Elkhorn Valley and fell 3-2. While the Huskies didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Falcons 25-23 in the first period.
West Holt actually scored more points across those five sets (104-98), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 15-25, 25-23, 25-19, 18-25, 15-12.
Meanwhile, Wausa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They fell 3-1 to Niobrara/Verdigre. While the Vikings didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cougars 25-22 in the first period.
Wausa started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-13, 26-24.
Despite their loss, Wausa saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Olivia Barta, who had 15 digs, was perhaps the best of all. Barta is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 14 or more in the last four games she's played dating back to last season.
Even though they lost, Wausa was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 14 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Niobrara/Verdigre only served six.
West Holt's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-6. As for Wausa, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
