Basketball Recap: ALA - Gilbert North Beats Poston Butte for Their Fourth Straight Win

ALA - Gilbert North hadn't done well against Poston Butte recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The ALA - Gilbert North Eagles took down the Poston Butte Broncos 54-39. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Broncos back in January, they had to take a 43-39 loss.

Leading ALA - Gilbert North to victory were Saige Barney and Gwen Scheurn. Barney dropped a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards, while Scheurn posted 11 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Scheurn also grabbed five steals, which is notable because ALA - Gilbert North is 2-1 when she posts at least five steals, but 8-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Adde Attridge, who earned nine points and six boards.

ALA - Gilbert North smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Poston Butte still got an impressive performance from Kara Child, who had eight points and 17 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Child a new career-high in boards. Sophia Polder also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

The victory was the fourth in a row for ALA - Gilbert North, bringing their record for this year to 10-13. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.8 points over those games. As for Poston Butte, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-13.
