Preview: Myers Park Mustangs vs. Berry Cardinal
After six games on the road, Myers Park is heading back home. They will take on the Berry Cardinal at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Myers Park's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matches.
Myers Park put the finishing touches on their 12th blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Olympic 77-34 on the road. Given Myers Park's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Olympic is ranked 348th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Myers Park got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Bishop Boswell out in front who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton King, who scored 11 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Berry pushed their score all the way to 58 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 66-58 to Harding University. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (57), Berry still had to take the loss.
Myers Park's victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.8 points per game. As for Berry, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Myers Park against Berry in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 79-35 win. Does Myers Park have another victory up their sleeve, or will Berry turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
