Softball Game Preview: Glenbard South Raiders vs. IC Catholic Prep Knights

The Glenbard South Raiders will challenge the IC Catholic Prep Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Glenbard South: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home dating back to last season, while IC Catholic Prep has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.

Glenbard South made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Elmwood Park, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Raiders never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory on Monday. The Raiders' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, IC Catholic Prep got the win against Payton College Prep on Saturday by a conclusive 13-4. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Madelynn Dinino made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ariani Zito was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lexi Russ, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

IC Catholic Prep hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Payton College Prep struck out six times.

IC Catholic Prep has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Glenbard South, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 2-5 record.

Glenbard South suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to IC Catholic Prep when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
