Recap: Lee County Yellow Jackets vs. Pinecrest Patriots
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Overhills, the Lee County Yellow Jackets were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 61-46 victory over Pinecrest. For Lee County, this counts as revenge for the 59-53 loss Pinecrest walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.
Lee County had a senior duo take command as Kelyce Mcswain dropped a double-double on 20 points and 20 rebounds and Gillian Garrison scored 21 points along with eight rebounds. Mcswain has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 12 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleah Cotton, who scored seven points along with six assists and five rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Pinecrest lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zanodiya Mcnair. Despite the final result, she scored 22 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Mcnair hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Ava Depenbrock, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Lee County's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-8. As for Pinecrest, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lee County will take on Richmond at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Richmond will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something Lee County surely won't give up without a fight. As for Pinecrest, they will be playing at home against Scotland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Scotland is coming into the matchup with five straight wins on the road, meaning Pinecrest will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory.
