Basketball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Nogales' Winning Streak

Nogales lost against Pueblo back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Nogales Apaches fell 57-46 to the Pueblo Warriors. The Apaches' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Nogales lost, don't look at Johanna Simpson. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Simpson has been hot recently, having also posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. Cecilia Burruel was another key player, putting up 12 points along with six assists and five boards.

Even though they lost, Nogales smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 12 consecutive contests.

It was another big night for America Cazares, who went 13 of 28 on her way to 35 points and three steals for Pueblo. The team also got some help courtesy of Asia Clark, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 boards.

Nogales' defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Pueblo, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 11-1.

Nogales didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-21 win against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy on the 28th. As for Pueblo, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 55-45 loss against Sunnyside on the 28th.
