Basketball Recap: Freeland Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Freeland had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They put the hurt on the Bridgeport Bearcats with a sharp 94-72 win. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Bearcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Wilson Huckeby went supernova, going 6-for-10 from beyond the arc on his way to 27 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The matchup was his third in a row with at least 21 points. Tucker Hileman was another key player, shooting 67% from the field to rack up 19 points and three steals.

Freeland was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They racked up seven more assists than Bridgeport's also-impressive total of ten.

Bridgeport's loss came despite strong showings from Kemaureon Woods and Thomas McKinley. Woods went 9-for-16 en route to 25 points in addition to five assists and three steals, while McKinley shot 46% from the field on his way to 15 points along with seven steals and five assists. Another player making a difference was Jamarion Holmes, who posted eight points.

Bridgeport's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Freeland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-39 win against Menominee on the 5th. As for Bridgeport, they have also already played their next game, a 75-71 victory against Pinconning on the 8th.
