Softball Game Preview: Pottsboro Cardinals vs. Leonard Tigers

Pottsboro is on an 11-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Leonard a ten-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Pottsboro Cardinals duke it out with Leonard Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Leonard took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Pottsboro, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Pottsboro turned things around against Howe on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 5-3. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Chayse Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Pottsboro got a big performance out of Savannah Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Johnson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 13 runs the game before, Leonard was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They lost 10-1 to Blue Ridge.

Leonard saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lauren Pemberton, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Pottsboro's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-10-1. As for Leonard, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-17.

Pottsboro took their victory against Leonard in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 15-8. Does Pottsboro have another victory up their sleeve, or will Leonard turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
