Softball Game Preview: Hernando Leopards vs. South Sumter Raiders

The Hernando Leopards will challenge the South Sumter Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

South Sumter will be up against a hot Hernando squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. Everything went the Leopards' way against Tarpon Springs on Wednesday as they made off with a 19-1 win. The Leopards might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by ten runs or more this season.

Ammarae Easton was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Ariana Covell, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Hernando was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, South Sumter beat Lake Weir 10-6 on Saturday. The Raiders haven't had any issues with the Hurricanes recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Hernando pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for South Sumter, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.

Everything went Hernando's way against South Sumter when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as Hernando made off with a 13-3 victory. Do the Leopards have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
