Baseball Recap: Michigan Lutheran Seminary's Loss Ends Three-Game Winning Streak at Home

Michigan Lutheran Seminary dropped their record down to 4-5 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ithaca Yellowjackets. The Cardinals were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Yellowjackets earlier this season, when they won 15-7.

Ethan Wakefield was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Michigan Lutheran Seminary is 2-1 when Wakefield posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Zachary Scharrer, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Ithaca, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

On Ithaca's side, they let Colton Pratt and Carsen Shankel run wild. Pratt got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, while Shankel went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. Those two runs gave Shankel a new career-high. Justice McDaid also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Looking ahead, Michigan Lutheran Seminary will face off against Lansing Christian at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Ithaca, they will take on Garber at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Dukes' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Yellowjackets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
