Basketball Recap: Jaden Staten's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Godby over Florida State University High School

After flying high against Thomasville last Saturday, Godby came back down to earth. The Godby Cougars came up short against the Florida State University High School Seminoles on Saturday, falling 74-51. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Seminoles recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaden Staten, who went 6 for 14 on his way to 16 points. Staten's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Terrell Ceasor, who posted nine points.

Florida State University High School's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Iyran Francis, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. What's more, Francis also racked up eight blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Eli Dickey was another key player, going 6 of 8 on his way to 14 points and three steals.

Godby's defeat dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Florida State University High School, their victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-4.

Godby wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 67-56 win against Gadsden County on the 7th. As for Florida State University High School, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 71-54 victory against Crossroad Academy on the 7th.
