Basketball Game Preview: Northwest Whitfield Bruins vs. Calhoun Yellow Jackets

The Northwest Whitfield Bruins just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Calhoun Yellow Jackets at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Northwest Whitfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Lookout Valley 80-45 on Thursday. The Bruins pushed the score to 68-31 by the end of the third, a deficit the Yellowjackets cut but never quite recovered from.

Meanwhile, Calhoun entered their tilt with Heritage on Tuesday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victor by a 71-48 margin over the Generals. Given the Yellow Jackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while the Generals are ranked 340th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Northwest Whitfield better keep an eye on Jaxon Moore. He was instrumental in Calhoun's win, going 8 for 14 on his way to 20 points and seven assists. The dominant performance gave Moore a new career-high in assists. Trace Hawkins was another key player, putting up eight points along with nine assists and three steals.

Calhoun was working as a unit and finished the game with 26 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Northwest Whitfield's record now sits at 15-5. As for Calhoun, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.
