Basketball Recap: St. Francis Knights vs. South Gwinnett Comets
St. Francis couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took an 82-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Gwinnett Comets on Saturday. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Comets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2022.
Loss or not, St. Francis got some senior leadership from Greg Howard and Reynolds Escher. Howard posted 29 points in addition to six rebounds, while Escher dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds. Howard's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Julian Edney was another key player, posting eight points.
St. Francis will challenge Lakeside at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Gwinnett has already played their next matchup, a 50-40 victory against Meadowcreek on the 12th.
