Ashton Wetmiller was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Cody Morgan looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jace Romans, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Cole Morgan also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Vero Beach hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Treasure Coast fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Centennial on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 2-1.
Hunter Wilson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched.
At the plate, Treasure Coast saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Romero, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Vero Beach's win was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0. As for Treasure Coast, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.
Treasure Coast's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Vero Beach hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. It's a different story for Treasure Coast, though, as they've only averaged .250. Will they be able to contain Vero Beach's hitters?
