Softball Game Preview: Triad Knights vs. Civic Memorial Eagles

The Triad Knights will head out to take on the Civic Memorial Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Triad has four straight wins, Civic Memorial has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Triad saw some tournament action on Saturday. They skirted past Columbia 3-1.

Meanwhile, Civic Memorial didn't have quite enough to beat Marissa/Coulterville on Saturday and fell 9-7. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly two runs.

Emma Wade made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Skylar Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.

Triad's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Civic Memorial, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-9.

Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Triad hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355. However, it's not like Civic Memorial struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Triad couldn't quite finish off Civic Memorial in their previous meeting back in April and fell 4-2. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
