Basketball Recap: Buchholz Sets Scoring Season-High Against the Rock

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Buchholz). They walked away with a 71-64 victory over The Rock Lions on Friday. The Bobcats have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Lions, too.

Buchholz was led to victory by Taylor Booth and Ja'Niyah Fillmore. Booth went 9 for 15 on her way to 23 points, while Fillmore went 9 of 12 en route to 21 points. Those 23 points gave Booth a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Wyckoff, who posted ten points.

The Rock's loss came despite strong showings from Ruby Patterson and Callie West. Patterson went 7 of 13 en route to 18 points along with eight rebounds and six assists, while West went 7 for 13 on her way to 16 points and six boards. Patterson's evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Marlin Tyson, who had seven points and eight boards.

Buchholz's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-10. As for The Rock, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-18 record this season.

Buchholz will be playing in front of their home fans against Hawthorne at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hawthorne has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 214 points over their last three contests. The Rock has already played their next matchup, a 68-30 victory against Excel Christian Academy on the 25th.
