Basketball Recap: Griffith Comes Up Short

After soaring to 56 points the game before, Griffith was a bit more limited in their matchup on Saturday. They took a blow against the Andrean Fighting 59ers, falling 51-15. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Fighting 59ers: they've now lost five in a row.

Olivia Esquivel and Nijah Young certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Esquivel posted five points, while Young put up two points.

Lindsay Arcella had an outrageously good game for Andrean as she went 7 of 11 from beyond the arc on her way to 27 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Arcella has scored at least a third of Andrean's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Walton, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 10 points in addition to five boards and four blocks.

Griffith's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Andrean, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Griffith wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 54-22 victory against Calumet New Tech on the 16th. Andrean has also already played their next contest, a 44-31 loss against Rensselaer Central on the 17th.
