Basketball Recap: Xander Salas leads a balanced attack to beat Schuyler County

Basketball Recap: Green City Gophers vs. Schuyler County Rams

The Green City Gophers had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They strolled past Schuyler County with points to spare, taking the game 75-58. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Green City to victory, but perhaps none more so than Xander Salas, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten assists. Salas has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Asher Buggs-Tipton, who scored 25 points.

Green City has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season. As for Schuyler County, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Green City will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Linn County is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Schuyler County, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on February 3rd.
