Basketball Recap: Darla Lee Key Part of a Team Effort in Pirates Win

Corinth Holders won the last time they faced Fuquay - Varina and things went their way on Saturday too. The Corinth Holders Pirates secured a 41-36 W over the Fuquay - Varina Bengals. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 195th, while the Bengals are ranked 418th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Corinth Holders to victory, but perhaps none more so than Darla Lee, who posted 16 points. Lee's afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jada Vanderhorst, who had eight points and seven boards.

Corinth Holders smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Fuquay - Varina's loss came despite strong showings from Abigail Meaney and Taylor Edwards. Meaney scored 17 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals, while Edwards earned 11 points. The dominant performance also gave Edwards a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (50%).

Corinth Holders now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Fuquay - Varina, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-18 record this season.

Looking ahead, Corinth Holders will head out to challenge Clayton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fuquay - Varina, they will challenge South Garner at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
