Softball Game Preview: Rainier Beach Vikings vs. Chief Sealth Seahawks

Rainier Beach is 0-10 against Chief Sealth since April of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Vikings will look to defend their home field against the Seahawks at 4:00 p.m. Rainier Beach has given up an average of 20.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Rainier Beach is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 17 runs last Tuesday, they were much more limited against Ingraham on Thursday. They lost 20-2 to the Rams. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Rainier Beach saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was CJ Willis, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Sema'J Duncan also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chief Sealth). They blew past Cleveland 28-7 on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Seahawks sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Chief Sealth pushed their record up to 6-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 22.7 runs over those games. As for Rainier Beach, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Rainier Beach suffered a grim 23-0 defeat to Chief Sealth in their previous matchup last Monday. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
