Baseball Recap: Southridge Takes a Loss

Southridge extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 8-11 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Heritage Hills Patriots. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Raiders have suffered since April 27, 2024.

As for Heritage Hills, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

For Heritage Hills' part, Peyton Gray made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over seven innings pitched. Gray has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

Gray wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyce Winchell, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. That's the most hits Winchell has posted over his last 11 contests.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Southridge will challenge rival Mt. Vernon at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Heritage Hills is set to take on their familiar foe Princeton at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Patriots 3.6, the Tigers 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
