Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to post 12 more assists than your opponent, a fact the Classical Prep Lions proved on Thursday. They came out on top against Families Instructing Students HomeSchool by a score of 46-33. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Classical Prep.
Leading Classical Prep to victory were Mia Milanes and Kaelyn Malloy. Milanes scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Malloy scored 20 points along with six assists and six rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which Malloy has scored at least 25% of Classical Prep's points. Therese Bontuyan was another key contributor, scoring four points.
When it comes to explaining why Families Instructing Students HomeSchool lost, one person who can't be blamed is Melody Lee. Despite the final result, she scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. The game was Lee's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Makayla Calzada, who scored four points along with three steals.
Classical Prep is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Families Instructing Students HomeSchool, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-4.
Classical Prep will head out on the road to face off against Universal Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Universal Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Families Instructing Students HomeSchool won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Ruskin Christian at 5:00 p.m. on January 5th.
