The Lewis Cass Kings will venture away from home to square off against the Winamac Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Monday, Lewis Cass needed a bit of extra time to put away Caston. They had just enough and edged out the Comets 13-12. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Kings.
The team relied heavily on Kaitlyn Benner, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ava Hubner, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Lewis Cass was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Winamac posted their closest victory since May 11, 2024 on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Rochester 2-1. The two-run effort marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Winamac's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Maggie Keller, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Winamac's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Lewis Cass, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both Lewis Cass and Winamac just can't seem to miss. The Kings have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Winamac struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lewis Cass might still be hurting after the 13-1 loss they got from Winamac in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Kings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
