Softball Recap: Frewsburg Takes a Loss

Frewsburg had lost four straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-6 to make it five. They lost 17-0 to the Chautauqua Lake Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bears of the 5-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Chautauqua Lake, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Chautauqua Lake's part, Cayzlee Johnson made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Johnson has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Lucy Gates was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Kinslee Motter was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

Frewsburg has already played their next contest (against Cattaraugus-Little Valley), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Chautauqua Lake, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 1-0 defeat against Westfield on the 7th.
