First-year Texas UIL high school football coaches making a splash this fall

There are approximately 190 new head coaches on the job in UIL 11-man football programs this fall.

Some coaxed dramatic turnarounds such as J.J. Lejia at Edinburg while a few others maintained success after taking charge of winning programs, like Terry Gambill at Allen.

Here are a few that made a splash in their first regular season at the helm:

Class 6A



Shawn Bell 10-0 at Cedar Ridge (Round Rock); last year's record 10-2

John Campbell 4-6 at Madison (San Antonio); last year's record 0-10

Terry Gambill 10-0 at Allen; last year's record 14-1

Jeff Hulme 8-2 at Midway (Waco); last year's record 9-4
