Centereach took a three-set defeat the last time they faced off against Smithtown West, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cougars had just enough and edged out Smithtown West 3-2 on Friday. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 3-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Centereach had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 15-25, 24-26, 25-22, 25-20, 15-9.

The victory got Centereach back to even at 1-1. As for Smithtown West, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 9-2 record.

Centereach will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Newfield at 5:45 p.m. on the 30th. After both having extra time off, Smithtown West and Smithtown East will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulls will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Smithtown West surely won't give up without a fight.
