Softball Game Preview: Catawba Ridge Copperheads vs. South Florence Bruins

Catawba Ridge is a perfect 4-0 against South Florence since February of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Copperheads will face off against the Bruins at 6:00 p.m. Catawba Ridge is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Last Thursday, Catawba Ridge got the win against Nation Ford by a conclusive 9-1. The Copperheads might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, South Florence is ranked highly in their home state and on Tuesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Austintown-Fitch. The Bruins narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Falcons 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bruins have posted since March 14th.

Payton Perry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, South Florence's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Blakely Blue, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.

Catawba Ridge pushed their record up to 20-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for South Florence, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-6.

Catawba Ridge took their victory against South Florence in their previous matchup on April 2nd by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Copperheads since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
