Basketball Recap: Legacy Skates Past Eldorado with Ease

Legacy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 56.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They breezed by the Eldorado Firehawks to the tune of 80-13. Given the Longhorns' advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Firehawks are ranked 83rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Legacy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alabama Nieves, who went 12 for 19 en route to 29 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Nieves has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Laila Gines, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 steals.

Legacy was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Legacy is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.2 points per game. As for Eldorado, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Legacy will head out to face off against Southeast Career Tech at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Eldorado, they will venture away from home to square off against Bonanza at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Eldorado is facing Bonanza at the right time seeing as Bonanza is stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
